Dry ice has many different uses from transporting frozen foods over several days to creating a spooky fog effect and even removing dents from cars!
Dry Ice is frozen carbon dioxide, a natural element found in the atmosphere. Unlike regular ice, dry ice will sublimate (change directly from a solid to a gas) without going through a liquid stage, hence its name “dry” ice.
Do not leave dry ice unattended around children
Shipping Boxes
We now carry shipping boxes! These boxes are great for shipping overnight. They are insulated with an outer cardboard box.
The inside dimensions are 17 x 11 x 8 inches. The cost is $15.00 plus tax.
Please, however, check with your postage carrier about their rules and regulations, for each carrier is different.
Handling
Because of its extreme cold temp. (-109.3°F), always handle Dry Ice with care, protecting your hands and exposed skin with heavy gloves (oven mitt or towel will work too). Prolonged contact with the skin will result in injury similar to burns. Treat Dry Ice burns the same as regular heat burns and apply antibiotic ointment to prevent infection and bandage only if the burned skin area needs to be protected. See a doctor if the skin blisters or comes off.
Storage
Store Dry Ice in an insulated container. The thicker the insulation, the slower it will sublimate. Keep proper air ventilation wherever Dry Ice is stored. Do not store Dry Ice in unventilated rooms, cellars, autos or boat holds. Do not store Dry Ice in a refrigerator freezer. The extremely cold temperature will cause your thermostat to turn off the freezer; however, it is the perfect thing if your refrigerator breaks down in an emergency.
Ventilation
If Dry Ice has been in a closed auto, van, room, or walk-in, for more than 10 minutes, open doors and allow adequate ventilation before entering. If you start to pant or breathe quickly leave the area immediately as this is the sign that you have breathed in too much CO2 and not enough oxygen.
Pick-up Time and Transporting
Plan to pick up the Dry Ice as close to the time it is needed as possible. Carry it in a well-insulated container such as an ice chest. If it is transported inside a car or van for more than 15 minutes make sure there is fresh air.
Disposal
Any unwanted dry ice can be left at room temperature in a well-ventilated area away from children and will sublimate from a solid to a gas.
Common Uses
Dry Ice is commonly used for transporting food products for both short and long distances, also for keeping food frozen during power outages. Other uses are: removing tile, removing dents, fog and special effects, science projects, bed bug removal, and for countless areas in the medical field.
